“I–” There was a pause of hesitation. It was a horrific idea. It would only make things worse when he eventually went home again to an empty apartment. But he never really cared for his wellbeing. “Sure. Sounds good.”
Maybe he could pretend. Pretend nothing had ever happened, that this really was their first meeting. That they were normal people, living their normal lives.
He hadn’t expected him to say yes. Alec was a stranger to this man and this wasn’t something that he did. But regardless, it was happening. There was no changing his mind now, “Great! The coffee shop I go to is really close to here. I chose it so that I didn’t have to walk far from my building in the winter. Brooklyn is nice and all, but I don’t to walk blocks for coffee in a blizzard.”
This would be good. For once he was finally being bold.
“Good idea. No one wants to have to freeze to death if they can help it. Not even coffee is worth that.” It all felt so wrong, unnatural. His jokes seemed as if they all just fell flat and he didn’t even dare attempt to flirt with Alec. He couldn’t. He felt sick but couldn’t back out of this now.
