Alec briefly turned his gaze back to Magnus, smiling sadly at the man, “I can’t lose you, Magnus. Not again. Let me make up for what I did to you, please.”
Blue eyes moved back to the demon, more determined than ever to keep him away from Magnus, “And I’ll hunt you down until you’re gone for good. Take me. One less shadowhunter to deal with, right? Doesn’t that make sense?”
He stepped away from Magnus gently, moving towards Asmodeus, “You’d just kill me anyway, wouldn’t you? Why not spare your son’s life and take mine instead.”
“You were going to take away his immortality, weren’t you? You wanted to grow old with him. I can take his immortality right now. Of course, he’s 400 years old, he’ll die within seconds. But you’ll get to see what it would be like to grow old with him. What do you think, Magnus?”
A smirk spread across Asmodeus’ lips as his hands slid into the pockets of his white suit. “And I know you’ve brought more of your little angel friends along. I could have a lot of fun with them.”
“No!” His voice shook, panic tearing through him as he stepped forward again, inches from where Asmodeus stood, “Don’t you dare hurt him. Yes, I wanted to grow old with him, but I’ve accepted that I can’t. It doesn’t matter now, what matters is that he’s safe.”
Alec’s heart was pounding, body trembling in fear and worry. But not for himself. No. He was scared and worried for Magnus.
“What is that you want, aside from Magnus’ life? I’ll give you anything but that. Do you want mine? Because you can have it.”
“You’re certainly a persistent one aren’t you. I see why Magnus chose you.” His gaze moved off Alec for a moment to look at the warlock instead. “I mean, honestly, whichever one of you I kill, that little runt of Lilith’s will kill the other.”
He could feel the angst and the anguish coming off the Shadowhunter in waves and a quiet laugh escaped him. “I think we’ve established that you’d sacrifice yourself for him.”
