Relief flooded him when the door was opened, but the sad look in Magnus’ eyes made him frown. He wasn’t fine, that much was obvious. Stepping into the apartment, Alec looked around, feeling somewhat awkward.

“I wouldn’t know about women. Never dated one.” He spoke with a shrug, “You don’t sound fine though. What happened? If you don’t mind my asking..”

Okay, so maybe his apartment was a bit of a mess and maybe he was also a bit of a mess. But did that mean he wasn’t okay? Well, probably yes but he would still refuse to admit that Camille had affected him as much as she did.

“I’m sticking to men now. Well, until a man breaks my heart probably.” He attempted to crack a joke. “She cheated on me and then lied about it.”

“I would say men aren’t as bad as women, but I’ve only ever went on three dates and the only woman I spend any sort of time with, is my sister.” He tried to smile, to make this whole conversation slightly less awkward. His smile faltered, however, with Magnus’ next words, “Shit, I’m sorry.”

Alec didn’t fully understand how his neighbor felt, after all, he’d only been on the three dates. But he knew how it felt to expect to be meeting someone he was seeing only to see them with someone else, “I don’t know if it helps at all, but I’ve kinda been there. I was supposed to go in a fourth date with this guy and I sat at the table at a fancy restaurant waiting for him for almost an hour. I saw him walk in with another man attached to his arm. It sucks, yeah. But he wasn’t worth my time, and this Camille isn’t worth yours. You can do better.”

“Well, hanging out with your sister sounds far better than some of the dates I’ve been on.” He laughed quietly, chewing on his lower lip.

He knew Alec was trying to help and he really did appreciate it. Actually, it was better in a way than being left to wallow in self pity. He knew he was better off moving on from Camille, after all it was her fault that things had to end. “People can be absolute arseholes basically. I know. And you’re right, she’s not worth my time. If you’re not busy tonight, do you want to stay around?”
