To say he was only slightly nervous would be the biggest understatement of the year. He had planned all of this out, with help from Isabelle and Clary of course, and there was no real reason for him to be this anxious. Alec had the ring, dinner was going to be great. Magnus had to say yes. Unless he didn’t. What if he says no? Alec wasn’t entirely sure he was ready for that rejection. Was anybody ever ready? He wasn’t sure.
The door opening had him sitting up too fast and he stumbled a little, cursing under his breath as his cheeks flushed in embarrassment. This was just Magnus. It was going to be fine. Flashing the warlock a wide smile, trying to ignore the fact that he nearly knocked over the bottle of wine he had bought for this occasion, Alec pulled out a chair and gestured for Magnus to sit.
“It’s my turn to serve you.” He spoke softly, blue eyes shining, “Dinner isn’t anything fancy, because I’m not that great of a cook, but I thought that you might like something homemade tonight.”
Magnus didn’t like to think he was oblivious about anything. But he had no idea of what Alec was planning, a soft smile pulling on his lips as he walked in through the door to see his boyfriend. A brow lifted as he moved to take the seat offered to him.
He looked up at Alec and reached for his hand to attempt to tug him down into a kiss. “I’m sure it will be perfect. Thank you. You’re definitely going to be a better cook than I am.”
He wasn’t as bad as Isabelle at cooking but there was a reason why he tended to order takeaway rather than making his own dinner.
The shadowhunter smiled against his boyfriend’s lips, pulling away before he got too distracted and the pasta burned. He let his fingers trail over the warlock’s cheek softly before he completely pulled away, “I taught myself to cook because it was either that or Taki’s every time I got hungry. Jace appreciated having something edible that didn’t make him sick for a week.”
With another smile, Alec stepped back into the kitchen. Everything smell delicious and he couldn’t wait to watch Magnus enjoy it. Fixing two plates, he carried them back to the table.
“I hope it tastes as good as it smells, because I’d hate to disappoint you with exceptionally mediocre food.”
His eyes were bright as he stared up at his boyfriend, meeting his gaze. Even now, he was still overwhelmed sometimes when he looked at Alec. Really looked. There was a Shadowhunter in his home, he’d managed to work his way into his heart somehow and Magnus couldn’t imagine his life without Alec anymore.
“Yes, well, with Izzy’s reputation for cooking I’m not surprised that you taught yourself. I think I would have done the same.”
He let Alec pull back with a somewhat disgruntled sound but waited patiently and quietly until Alec returned, a bright smile spreading across the warlock’s lips. “Well it smells delicious and I’m sure it will taste it as well.”
“You’re such an idiot sometimes, Alexander. Who could ever say no to you?” He breathed, pressing their foreheads...
